We’re excited for the newest addition to our CFMZ coaching team, Coach John “Shep” Shepard.

John is a former Division 1 football player at the University of Florida, where he studied exercise science. In 2004, he moved to Santa Cruz, California, where he worked as a police officer and SWAT team operator for 10 years. John was fortunate to start his CrossFit training at the original CrossFit Headquarters in Santa Cruz with some of the world’s first CrossFit coaches.
In Santa Cruz, he began coaching CrossFit before moving to southwest Florida and opening CrossFit Punta Gorda in 2013. He continues to run his box with help from his staff and write the daily workout programs.
John holds CrossFit certificates as a level 2 trainer, kettlebell trainer, strongman trainer and striking trainer. As a personal trainer, he has great success with both student athletes and adults. He has coached state champion tennis players, division 1 football players and helped numerous recruits prepare for their enlistments in the military.

As a coach, John believes in keeping the mood light and having fun in class. He approaches CrossFit training as a lifestyle and for longevity and doesn’t ever want to hear the words “I used to do CrossFit”. John believes everyone learns differently and loves finding creative ways to help athletes progress and reach their goals.
John is excited to join the CrossFit Mile Zero community and help out where he can and we’re happy to have him! @donut_shoals @crossfit_puntagorda #crossfitmilezero #keywestflorida #keywest
