John “Shep” Shepard

Head Coach

Biography

Shep is a former Division 1 Football player at the University of Florida where he studied Exercise Science.

In 2004 he moved to Santa Cruz, California where he worked as a police officer and SWAT team operator for 10 years.

Shep was fortunate to start his CrossFit training at the original CrossFit HeadQuarters in Santa Cruz with some of the world’s first CrossFit coaches.  In Santa Cruz he began coaching CrossFit before moving to Southwest Florida in 2013 where he opened CrossFit Punta Gorda.

He continues to run his box with help from his staff and still writes the daily workout programs.  As a personal trainer he has great success with both student athletes and adults.  He has coached state champion tennis players, Division 1 football players, and helped numerous recruits prepare for enlistments in the military.

As a coach Shep believes in keeping the mood light and having fun in class.  He approaches CrossFit training as a lifestyle for longevity and doesn’t ever want to hear the words, “I used to do CrossFit”.  Shep believes everyone learns differently and loves finding creative ways to help athletes progress and reach their goals.
