Born in Brownsville Texas in a paramilitary family, Derek has had the pleasure of living in many different parts of our country from Chicago to Puerto Rico. Growing up with extensive travel and calling different places home shows how much he loves this island and the people who surround him in it as he’s made Key West his home for over 20 years.
Impressively, Derek is approaching his 20th anniversary with the Key West Police Department. This career path has presented numerous opportunities that he believes will aid in his journey of be becoming a CrossFit coach.
Currently on the Motor Unit, Derek has been a Field Training officer and has earned many certifications and achievements including a Metal of Valor.
Derek’s love for CrossFit started in 2017. Something that began simply as a personal growth journey has quickly become a passion. The love he has developed for the CrossFit Mile Zero gym and the community has fueled his decision to further his involvement with this gym. Obtaining his CF- L1 credentials in early 2025.
